Project 805 presents itself as a no-nonsense little robusto that isn’t the prettiest looking cigar, but makes up for it with its texture and solid construction. The wrapper is a bit rough around the edges with Cuan 805 some medium to large veins running across it, but it’s still supple enough and features an attractive peach fuzz on the texture that adds a nice ruggedness to the overall feel.
As far as the smoking experience goes, the Project 805 gets off to a solid start, with a tight draw and a somewhat muted woody aroma that gives way to some maple syrup-like sweetness and a hint of spice. The smoke clouds are fairly thick and require regular puffing to maintain, but they deliver a very smooth flavor that doesn’t waver much from start to finish.
The Project 805 is a fairly small cigar and is available in four vitolas: Robusto (5 by 50), Toro (6 by 52), Figurado (6 1/4 by 52) and Churchill (7 by 52). The robusto I sampled came from the La Aurora factory in the Domincan Republic and is a well made stick that’s packed tightly, with no soft spots and an easy draw. I can see this being a good smoke for those who prefer to keep their cigars short and light, but it’s also one of the more flavorful and aromatic sticks in the line. I’m definitely looking forward to trying the other vitolas.
